Overview
The University of Michigan Transplant Center holds the State of the Art: Kidney & Pancreas Transplantation course each year to update health care professionals on topics in kidney & pancreas transplantation. This year the course will be in-person on Friday, October 2.

Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, learners will be able to:

  1. Explain the typical time to deceased donor transplant and describe the relationship to dialysis-related mortality.
  2. Describe the impact of waiting time on the benefits of transplantation.
  3. Identify the current types and quality of deceased donor kidneys and estimate expected wait times for these offers.
  4. Identify and apply ways to decrease wait time for earlier access to transplant opportunities.
  5. Explain how comorbidities change the urgency for transplant.
  6. Apply principles of individualized care to engage in shared decision-making with transplant candidates.
  7. Apply care coordination strategies among transplant teams, community providers, patients, and caregivers to support post-transplant care and immunosuppressant management.
  8. Explain the benefits of living donation.
  9. Describe the donor evaluation process.

Accreditation

The University of Michigan Medical School is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for physicians.
