Overview
Join the University of Michigan Pediatric and Adult Hematology programs, along with key invited speakers, to explore the role of inflammation in multiple facets of hematology. We will dig deep into understanding monogenic causes, e.g. ADA2 deficiency, GATA2 haploinsufficiency, WHIM syndrome, VEXAS, of inflammatory disorders with hematologic manifestations and current strategies for diagnosis and management. Additionally, we will delve into the role of cytokines including IL-1, IL-6 and CXCL9 plus netosis in sickle cell pain and expand our understanding of the contributions of immune disruption (e.g. complement inhibition, netosis) in thrombus formation.

Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, learners will be able to:

  1. Identify diagnostic and initial management strategies for monogenic inflammatory disorders with hematologic manifestations.
  2. Describe cytokine-mediated mechanisms and targeted therapies in sickle cell pain and HLH-like multi-organ dysfunction.
  3. Explain immune-mediated contributors—including complement activation and netosis—to thrombosis.
