Overview
The Family Medicine Faculty Development Institute (FDI) provides early career family physicians in academic and teaching roles with the tools to foster their growth and development.The year-long program provides a sequence of seminars spanning a range of topics relevant to the development and advancement of faculty.The program also brings together a unique set of peers, fostering a network and sense of community for emerging academic family physicians across the state of Michigan.

Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, learners will be able to:

  1. develop a comprehensive understanding of promotion processes while learning to use Kern’s six steps of curriculum development to create effective curricula.
  2. integrate inclusive teaching best practices and leverage available resources to develop educational scholarship.
  3. explore and apply effective online and in-person teaching tools to enhance their teaching practice.
  4. deepen their ability to reflect on their leadership approaches, understand key aspects of successful leadership in academic medicine.
  5. explain best practices for effective mentorship and menteeship.
  6. strengthen their self-management skills to support their own wellbeing as physicians.

Cost:
No check payments.
Members of the University of Michigan Department of Family Medicine: $0 | Faculty affiliated with Michigan State University CHM Department of Family Medicine: $1000 | Regular faculty fee: $1,500

Refunds:
Full refunds until the program starts 9/4/25, with a $25 processing fee.  Partial refunds after the program starts on 9/4/25, on a case-by-case basis, with a $25 processing fee

The University of Michigan Medical School is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for physicians.
