Overview

This full-day course focuses on topics that support older adults to successfully age in place. Topics including mitigating risk while honoring autonomy and preferences, decisional capacity determination, available community resources and programs, financial exploitation, advance care planning, surrogate decision making, and hoarding. After completing this course, participants will be able to implement the latest practical and ethical considerations, options, and resources to assist older adult patients live safely, independently, and comfortably in their own homes as they age.

This course is funded, in part, by the generous support of the Elara Caring gift fund.


Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, learners will be able to:

  1. Determine decision-making capacity in older adult patients with dementia
  2. Identify updates in advance care planning, Michigan Physician Orders for Scope of Treatment (Mi-Post), and surrogate decision making
  3. Utilize community resources and programs to support older adult patients in aging in place
  4. Discuss the threats of older adult patients' hoarding behaviors on their safety and well-being
  5. Understand the key concepts of financial capacity, financial incapacity, and financial power of attorney
  6. Counsel older adult patients and their caregivers on financial exploitation, fraud, and scams

Cancellation Policy:

An administrative fee of $25 will be deducted from your registration payment. Refund requests must be received in writing, no later than Friday, April 11,2025. No refunds will be made thereafter.
