Overview

The Michigan Institute for Clinical & Health Research (MICHR), Department of Learning Health Sciences, and Institute for Healthcare Policy and Innovation are co-hosting a symposium on Implementation Science and Learning Health Systems: Catalysts for Enhancing Real-World Health Impacts. The purpose of this symposium is to gather faculty, staff, learners, and community partners to share experiences and discuss strategies on integrating implementation science in learning health systems to design and evaluate quality initiatives focused on improving delivery of care and outcomes.

The symposium will feature keynote addresses from:

  • J.D. Smith, PhD, University of Utah

  • Leora Horwitz, MD, NYU Langone Health

The symposium will also include a panel discussion with Michigan Program on Value Enhancement (MPrOVE) and Collaborative Quality Initiatives (CQIs) on leveraging implementation science for learning health systems and a fireside chat with Drs. Smith and Horwitz on pragmatic trials and implementation science in Learning Health Systems.

Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, learners will be able to:

  1. Understand the attributes of a “learning health system” (LHS) and apply this understanding to incorporating healthcare data in research and in improving care, and to developing infrastructure to support LHS.
  2. Apply implementation science strategies to design and evaluate quality initiatives focused on improving delivery of care and outcomes.
