The goal of this symposium is to review current innovations in transplantation and what is being developed for use in the near future. The session will focus on the innovations in artificial organs and xenotransplantation, policy changes in organ allocation, innovative surgical techniques, maximizing the use of donation after circulatory death using machine perfusion, pretransplant cardiac evaluation and state of the art management of donor derived infections in solid organ transplant recipients.

Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, learners will be able to:

  1. Critically assess new evidence,
  2. Evaluate when and how to incorporate emerging technologies and allocation policies into patient care
  3. Apply best practices to optimize transplant outcomes.
