Overview
This full-day program is intended for sonographers and other healthcare professionals who are involved in performing pediatric echocardiograms as well as those with limited or no previous experience who are interested in getting started. It will focus on the technical components and practical tips needed to perform a comprehensive pediatric echocardiogram with formal lectures and a live scanning demonstration. A small group, hands-on scanning workshop is also included to practice skills. This scanning workshop will involve scanning normal pediatric hearts as well as those with congenital heart defects. The course will involve lectures about image optimization, child life strategies to improve patient cooperation, clinical pearls for performing studies in the NICU, tips for scanning specific congenital heart defects, and more.

Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, learners will be able to:

  1. State the components of a complete pediatric echocardiogram and how to perform these views.
  2. Apply pediatric-friendly strategies to promote patient cooperation and improve study success.
  3. Explain how to scan infant and children with congenital heart defects.
